DAY 9 - Being Ready - READY TO WAIT

Luke 2:25
'Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Messiah.' (NIV)

Matt 24:44
"Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect" (NKJV)

When we are waiting for an important delivery, or for a loved one's return, we are expectant and ready. Maybe we have taken down the old to make space for the new, or have made up the bed for our visitor and tidied the house. We are ready, and keep looking out of the window to see if they have arrived yet.

Simeon had waited many long years for God's promised Messiah and he was ready, waiting in the place he knew he'd see him. If, that morning, he had thought, "Maybe I'll skip today because I could do with a lie in. After 65-or-so years and he still hasn't appeared, what are the chances of it being today?", he would have totally missed it!
As believers in Jesus, we are looking for his return to earth, as he promised, and we have no idea when that will be.....though I believe it'll be sooner than we imagine.
So let's get our inner lives swept and clean; all dark corners faced and dealt with, and counterfeit gods thrown out, ready for the Return of the King!
